Changes Are in the Air

As many may have noticed from our website, we are once again pressing forward in the spirit of change. I just wanted to take an opportunity to address some of the changes, and what they mean for our services and both current and future clients.

One rather noticeable shift is that we are no longer providing new Reseller services. This decision comes after months of internal analysis and planning, and is based on many factors, but mainly we are looking to retool our Reselling platform and offerings behind the scenes. The service will be returning at some point in the future, albeit in a possibly different way.

Though we will no longer be accepting new Reseller clients, our services for our current Resellers will surely remain strong (a little more on that just a little later in the post.)

We’ve also introduced three new Shared hosting plans that are now the crux of our service offerings. To match something we feel clients have been desiring for quite some time, these new plans have guaranteed site-to-server ratio limits. Our Silver package has a maximum of 128 clients per server, our Gold package has a maximum of 64 clients per server and Diamond clients are placed on extremely spacious servers with only 32 per box.

We’ve always put the utmost importance on the quality of our services, but we feel this new policy will be better to put concrete numbers to our service promises. It also gives clients needing extra resources (for higher traffic sites, large forums, web applications, et al.) a much easier solution in the form of nearly semi-private servers for a very reasonable price.

We at Site5 are the first to admit that we are always growing and attempting to change for the better as a company. We are proud of the latest round of changes that have occurred officially over the past week (and for much longer than that in Site5’s top secret underground planning laboratories) - basically we think they signal a “back to basics” approach to our service offerings.

Though many of these changes in policy are geared towards new client packages, we are unequivocally committed to bringing this philosophy to our entire network. Over the course of the past month, many of our top systems administrators and Engineers, lead by our COO Todd Mitchell and CTO Adam Greenfield, have overseen the “splitting” of dozens of our current servers (the amount of clients per server is cut in half, and half of those on a current box move to a brand new one.) We feel that this was a necessary move to further increase the performance of many of our machines, offering further resources, speed and dependability for all hosted sites. These transitions have gone nearly flawlessly so far, and migrations (for shared, reseller and all clients) will continue until each server has a reasonably low client level in line with our new policies. As always, we expect none-to-very little downtime with these migrations, so there should be no worries. Any clients possibly affected will be contacted far in advance.

I could also now go into how our website look, feel and colors changed a little as well last Friday, but I think I’ve rambled enough about that stuff in previous posts. I’m more than excited about these policy changes and the direction we are now headed. I hope all clients are as well. We, of course, still have many surprises on the horizon (good ones.. yes, good ones, I promise), but I will keep those for another rainy posting day.

If you’ve made it this far in my post, I thank everyone hosting with us for their continued business and support… we couldn’t be happier to have you as part of the Site5 family.

Don’t act like you’re not impressed…

I know, I know… You would normally think to yourself, “Self (if that is what, in fact you call yourself when you think to yourself), it would be absolutely unbelievable and amazing for an online business to significantly improve their plans and their look multiple times in the course of only a few months.” Normally, I would agree with you, but I have the luxury of knowing something that you might not… Site5 has pulled it off.

Unbelievable? Maybe… Amazing? You bet we are…

If you have been keeping an eye on the Site5 homepage, you will have noticed a few facelifts and color changes in the last few months which have not only aesthetically improved the appearance of the site, the changes also optimized our site backend to provide new functionality and imcreased site performance. In addition to these site tweaks, this overhaul brings about a whole new Site5 experience.

With a new-and-improved “back to the basics” initiative, the Site5 team hopes to break down the barriers of confusion for newcomers to the web hosting game while still appealing to the tried-and-true veterans who are looking for rock solid hosting before they are looking for all the bells and whistles.

Now this approach begs the question about “what happened to the bells and whistles” from the web hosting fans who are particularly inclined to seek such musical features, and I’d just assuage that throng’s worries by reminding everyone that the fundamental elements and great features that make Site5 hosting great are not going anywhere; we are simply refocusing our services and website to remind everyone, both internally and externally, that Site5 is all about quality web hosting.

Site5 was founded as a hosting company “by webmasters, for webmasters,” and you can expect that promise to remain our central focus: providing fast, reliable, and trouble free hosting to the Site5 community.

P.S. If you were searching for the humorous reference in this post, you must have missed the Anchorman reference in the title…
